A gad Fate. A public newspaper has to record many happy events and many very many happenings that make the writer wish that sympathy could offer consolation. Of all tbe tny records, however, for tbe year none ia to aad as the death of Mrs. Catherine Wright on last Saoday night, the facta of whose death are as follows: Mr. Silas Wright, her son waa up until late at night in the barn on hia own farm attending to a tick borae when be saw that his mothers opposite, waa on fire.

Hurrying over aa fast as possible be and Mr. Streeter rushed in and found Mrs. Wright on tbe flour Insensible, lie hurriedly carried her out but the effect of the smoke bad been too much for her and giving only a gasp or two, fbi expired. The neighbors by this time bad discovered be fire and every thing valuable was tak-o out of the bouse though no efforts could save tbe building itself. It is thought that tbe fire arose from tbe candle placed, near the head of tbe bed but of course nothing can be definitely learned.

Tbe bed and tbe clothes were burned when Mr. Wrigbt cme Into the boose, so it appears that tbe Ore must have originated in the bedroom. Mrs. Catherine Wright was born in 1797 aad was therefore 83 years old. She married and moved in early life to Socket's Harbor N.

Y. where she lived until 1854 when she came to tbe vicinity of Geneva, to tbe form where she lived until her death. Her husband died about two years ago and since that time she has lived alone, against tbe wishes of her sou who lived just across tbe road. She leaves only that one son, Silas Wrigbt, to mourn her death. She remained in possession of her faculties up to tbe day of her death and waa remarkably well preserved for one of her age.
